Designed to support interpreter growth at every career stage, SIA-UK offers flexible learning for those who are newly qualified, developing confidence in VRS and remote interpreting, or refining specialist skills.
Through SIA-UK, interpreters can access a mix of live webinars, Deliberate Practice Labs (DPLs), CPD webinars and self-paced learning, alongside core programmes such as Synergy, Acorn and Koru.
Delivered by experienced Deaf and hearing trainers who understand the realities of interpreting work, the academy reflects Sorenson’s commitment to quality, reflective practice and long-term interpreter wellbeing — supporting confidence, skill development and professional excellence.
Synergy UK Training – Online Webinar Series
Synergy is a free, webinar-based programme from the Sorenson Interpreting Academy
(SIA-UK), designed for BSL interpreting students and trainee interpreters who are approaching qualification or beginning their professional journey. If you are looking to build confidence as you move towards working practice, Synergy supports your early development by strengthening core interpreting knowledge, introducing a range of real-world interpreting settings — including community, education, Video Relay Service (VRS), and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) — and creating space to learn alongside other trainees through shared discussion and reflection. The programme is designed to help you feel better prepared, more informed, and more confident as you take your next steps towards professional interpreting work.

Acorn
Acorn is a free self-paced professional development programme from the Sorenson Interpreting Academy (SIA-UK), designed for newly qualified and early-career BSL interpreters who want flexible, self-directed learning as they grow into professional practice.
Acorn supports you in strengthening core interpreting skills, exploring ethical decision-making, and developing reflective practice, making it a good fit if you are consolidating your foundations, building confidence after qualification, or gaining experience across a range of interpreting settings.

Koru
Koru is an accelerated, structured training programme from the Sorenson Interpreting Academy (SIA-UK), designed for qualified BSL interpreters who are ready to take the next step into Video Relay Service (VRS) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) work. Aimed at interpreters with at least 2.5 years’ post-qualification experience, Koru supports your transition into higher-demand environments through focused learning, mentoring, and supported practice. The programme is designed to help you build confidence, develop advanced interpreting skills, and feel prepared to work effectively in live VRS settings.

Continuing Professional Development
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at the Sorenson Interpreter Academy (SIA-UK) supports the ongoing growth of practising interpreters working with Sorenson and SignVideo. Through a mix of live, online and in-person learning, interpreters can take part in Deliberate Practice Labs (DPLs), CPD webinars, eLearnings and reflective practice activities, alongside community learning such as Deafinitely Books book club.
DPLs offer short, hands-on sessions focused on practical skill development and supported practice, while CPD webinars provide space to explore wider topics, current issues and emerging practice across community, VRS and other professional settings. Together, these opportunities support reflective practice, skill maintenance and continued professional development throughout your interpreting career.

Power of Two
Power of Two is a specialist training programme from the Sorenson Interpreter Academy (SIA-UK) focused on effective Deaf and hearing interpreter co-working in professional settings. Designed for Deaf intralingual and hearing interpreters working together, the programme explores when and why Deaf–hearing teams are needed, and how to collaborate effectively through clear processes, communication and trust.
Through structured learning, open discussion and supported practice, Power of Two introduces best practice, addresses common challenges, and strengthens shared understanding to support high-quality, inclusive interpreting across community, VRS and other professional environments.
